BISMARCK, North Dakota — A state-funded program that aims to turn research on North Dakota college campuses into jobs has awarded grants totaling about $650,000 to North Dakota State University.

The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission awarded a $357,000 grant to the school and a partnering company called Elbit Systems of America to collect crop data using various technologies from unmanned aircraft.

The school’s department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in partnership with CYCLOPS Technologies was awarded $291,000 to develop miniature radar sensors to detect motions through building walls. The aim is to attach the devices to unmanned aircraft used by law enforcement and search and rescue teams.
